About Me
My name is Joy Jenen. I am from Oak Forest, Il. When I am not studying at Olivet Nazarene University, I live at home I live with my Dad and my cat Carmel! I am an only child. During the summers while I am home, I work at Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort, Il. I love being with kids of all ages! At camp, I am the Journey Day Camp Supervisor! I am in charge of four coordinators and then thirteen staff members. We work together to make sure that one hundred and fifty campers have an amazing summer! Right now this is where my heart is! I love young people and love investing in them. At school I am a freshman resident assistant and have been for the past two years. I love little campers but I also love young adults! I also work in admissions as an ambassador and welcome perspective students to Olivet! At Olivet my major is social science education and I am a junior.
I am super outgoing! I love being around people! I also love to stay busy! I love to read, shop, watch movies, hang outdoors, and catch up with friends and family. My goals right now are to just make the most of my time here at Olivet. My best friend from high school recently lost her battle to cancer. Actually, today marks two months since Julia has gone to be with the Lord. Julia battled cancer since we were sixteen. She was the one who I looked up to. She taught me how to not take life for granted and to enjoy the present moment. I am enjoying life right where I am!
After Olivet I would love to work at my summer camp full time or get a teaching position. My love has always been for other and young people. I want to make a lasting impact on my future campers or students. I also want to be a positive, Godly role model for them. I went into education because I have felt the passion for it my entire life. My best memories have been because of school. I want my students to find a love for history... or at least an appreciation. I would really love to teach high school, especially the twelfth grade. I think that senior year of high school is so important. I also love that age of almost transition and independence. I feel like I could really connect with this age. I would love to teach mostly American history. I would also be interested in teaching geography, government, and world civilization. I just really love it all and would be willing to teach anything! It just depends what the Lord puts in my path!
